It’s the collaboration that fans have been quietly willing into existence for years. This summer, two of South Africa’s most distinctive musical forces finally share the same stage again as Arno Carstens and Albert Frost meet for Summer Rain - a bespoke, carefully curated live experience that reflects on three decades of songwriting, friendship, and creative cross-pollination.

Carstens and Frost’s musical bond stretches back what they describe as a lifetime. Frost was principal guitarist and co-writer on two pivotal Arno Carstens albums - Another Universe and The Hello Goodbye Boys - records that marked a defining chapter in Carstens’ post-Springbok Nude Girls evolution. The years surrounding those releases were filled with memorable performances and long tours, moments that quietly cemented a musical chemistry that has endured well beyond the stage.

“I believe that at the core we share a similar melodic and rhythmical feel for music. And a sense of humour,” Carstens reflects.

Summer Rain offers audiences the chance to experience both artists in full flight: individual solo sets that trace their respective journeys, as well as collaborative moments that revisit old favourites and uncover new ones. It’s an evening that moves fluidly between reflection and spontaneity, storytelling and sheer musical muscle - a double header that feels both intimate and long overdue.

Neither artist needs introduction. Carstens, first as the unmistakable frontman of the Springbok Nude Girls and later as a prolific solo artist, has released numerous albums and collected multiple music awards, earning a reputation as one of the country’s most enduring and shape-shifting songwriters. Frost, a cornerstone of the South African blues-rock scene, spent over two decades with the Blues Broers and has collaborated widely, his guitar work instantly recognisable for its grit, finesse, and emotional weight.

This is not a nostalgia exercise, but a living conversation between two artists who know exactly where they’ve come from and how to make it matter right now.
