Suits & Sneakers presents: "Building the Marble Universe" with David Higgs

Suits & Sneakers hosts several events each month in Joburg, each featuring a different guest and theme. WHAT IS THIS EVENT ALL ABOUT?

Most people know David Higgs as the culinary force behind some of South Africa’s most iconic restaurants but his transition from a world-class chef to the co-founder of a hospitality empire was anything but a straight line. From the open-flame theatre of Marble and the high-energy spirit of Saint to the experimental luxury of Zioux and the high-end convenience of Pantry, David has mastered the art of building distinct, powerful brands under one vision.

On 24 February, Mark Sham sits down with David to unpack the mechanics of "Building the Marble Universe." This is a behind the scenes look at the Marble Hospitality Group and what it actually takes to scale excellence in an industry that is notoriously difficult to disrupt. David Higgs is Africa’s leading chef and the co-founder of the Marble Hospitality Group. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has moved from cooking in hotel kitchens to becoming the face of fine dining in South Africa.

Alongside his business partner Gary Kyriacou, David has successfully launched several award-winning establishments, including Marble, Saint, Zioux, and Pantry by Marble. Beyond his restaurants, David is a judge on My Kitchen Rules SA, an accomplished artist, and a competitive cyclist. He is celebrated for his ability to integrate luxury with experiential dining, a mission he continues to expand with the group's upcoming hotel and retail ventures.
