Candy & Shelley Go to the Desert

The Outlore Base
ABOUT
“Candy & Shelley go to the desert" is a one-act play by Paula Cizmar about two friends stranded in the middle of nowhere roadtripping to the Pacific Ocean. While the resilient Candy sunbathes, the nervous, overdressed Shelley panics. They encounter a biker, confront a past betrayal, and ultimately strengthen their friendship.
The actresses - Tamryn Speirs and Shannyn Fourie - are not only funny and honest in the performances spinning farce into a serio-comic drama. And the playwright Paula Cizmar lays waste the idea that feminists can’t laugh at themselves.
Besides their manic inability to cope with an overheated car in “a graveyard of lizards,” is their love-hate standoff. Psychologically and comically and with a whoop, these actresses set alight the material. Add to that the mysterious and somewhat ominous biker appearing in the middle of their plight, Rowan Studti accomplished actor of both stage and screen, becomes the catalyst to the unravelling plot.
