ABOUT
An Ongoing Rehearsal is a space that scholar and improvisor Nduduzo Makhathini has created to open up discourses between peoples, cultures, sounds and the art in its broadest sense. As he puts it: “it is a collaborative space within which practices and methods converge.”
In this 6th movement and the 2nd year of this concept, Makhathini collaborates with German born bassist and professor Martin Zenker together with Cape Town based tenor saxophone legend Buddy Wells to create yet another energy vortex.
The trio’s upcoming concert promises to be an amalgamation of sounds and stories from different cultural backgrounds towards some kind of shared musical memory. As Makhathini always reminds us: “through ‘performance’ as a means, we are seeking the beyond… each concert produces its own material for study and reflect on.” We are indeed students of life, “and the sounds we play reveal some of the deepest truths about being.”
As we all know by now that while An Ongoing Rehearsal has been a working title for Makhathini recent presentations, it is also part of a book title that he is writing An Ongoing Rehearsal in Ntu Sonicities.
