ABOUT
As part of the TransAtlantic Jazz Exchange (TAJE) 2026 Artist-in-Residence programme, this special community day brings together musicians, students, families, and neighbours for an afternoon rooted in music, voice, and shared experience. Led by Melvis Santa and the TAJE Band, the programme centres participation, listening, and collective expression, creating an open and welcoming space for all ages. The event reflects TAJE’s commitment to accessible arts programming, where music becomes a tool for connection, wellbeing, and community joy.
Community Workshop
Healing and the Human Voice with Melvis Santa

This interactive vocal workshop explores the voice as a source of healing, storytelling, and collective rhythm. Drawing on Afro-Cuban traditions and improvisational practice, Melvis Santa guides participants through breathing, sound, and simple vocal exercises designed to support expression and emotional wellbeing.
No prior music experience is required — all voices are welcome.

Community Concert – TAJE Jazz Festival Hub

Following the workshop, the community is invited to stay for a free afternoon concert featuring Melvis Santa, the TAJE Band, and invited local artists. The performance celebrates transatlantic musical exchange, blending Afro-Cuban and South African jazz traditions with student and community participation.
This concert is designed as a relaxed, family-friendly gathering where audiences can listen, move, and enjoy music together.
Lunch and refreshments will be available (limited)
