Nkoli: A Fierce & Fabulous Life is back in Johannesburg for three performances only, at the Keorapetse William Kgositsile Theatre, Kingsway Campus, UJ Arts and Culture, before its European Premiere at the prestigious Theater Der Welt Festival in Germany.
Nkoli is a musical celebrating the life of Simon Nkoli, a prominent anti-apartheid activist in the 1980s and 1990s. Simon stood trial for treason and was a leading campaigner for gay rights in South Africa and on the international stage. Nkoli has played to sold out audiences at both The Market Theatre in 2023 and at the Baxter theatre, Cape Town in 2024 and has attracted a young and diverse audience. It’s a story of courage, determination, unity and love, set against the backdrop of one of the most tumultuous decades in South African history.
The show unfolds on the ramp. A vogue-ball told through music, song, video, lip syncing, rap, archive and dance, that brings hope to all who see it. Nkoli is as fierce and fabulous as Simon was. A show not to be missed!
