ABOUT
For the first time in the orchestra’s six-year existence, we are joined by a guest conductor from outside Bloemfontein. Dario Broccardo from Port Elizabeth brings along many years of experience as a conductor, educator, and champion of community music-making.
Joining him on stage is local soloist Dr. Sharon de Kock, a member of the Odeion String Quartet, who will perform The Lark Ascending by British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. This much-loved work has frequently been voted the most popular classical piece by British audiences and is cherished for its lyrical beauty and sense of freedom. Another highlight of the evening is the première of Miniature Dances, composed by Rhapsody Orchestra member Sonja Visagie.
Rounding the programme out is two orchestral favourites: Rossini’s William Tell Overture, famously known as the theme from The Lone Ranger, and Grieg’s enchanting Peer Gynt Suite, featuring melodies sure to be familiar to audiences of all ages. This concert celebrates the joy of community orchestral music-making, and The Rhapsody Orchestra warmly invites the Bloemfontein public to join us for an evening of folklore and fantasy.
