ABOUT

Commonwealth Resounds 2017
On October 29th 2017, the “Commonwealth Resounds” will bring together the Kampala Symphony Orchestra and several choirs to celebrate the music of some of the great composers in a Gala concert in Kampala.

The event is being organised by the Kampala Music School, with the key performers being the Kampala Symphony Orchestra, members of the Chetham’s School of Music (a specialist music school in the UK) and other classical musicians from around the region, including  the Kenya Conservatoire of Music, the Kampala Singers, the choir of Christ the King and other singers. We shall also have guest appearances from Leslie Thomas, an opera singer from the US, and Maurice Kirya, appearing in a première event with an orchestra.

The event, an early evening Gala concert, will take place in the Atrium of the McKinnon Suites in Nakasero, Kampala.
The music to be performed will include great classics such as Zadok the Priest, Dies Irae, from Mozart’s requiem (as heard in the X men movie) and other great classics. Joining us on stage or a special event though will be Maurice Kirya in a unique showing, a difference, to celebrate the diversity of music and the meeting of two great traditions. New Music also from East African Composers, namely Kenya and Uganda, will be on show, showing a blend from the traditional music of the region, represented and composed in Orchestral form, the first time, hopefully of many, that we shall have such music portrayed in this form.

You don’t want to miss this great opportunity.
This concert will celebrate such talent, nurture the talent of the next generation of students and enable music education to be offered to those who would otherwise never be able to access it.
