The Cosmic Web | The Large Scale Structure of our Universe

Axminster House

ABOUT

Join us Wednesday, 28 January, 6:30 pm for a talk by astrophysicist Damien Matthew as he explores the grand scales, structures and evolution of our universe.

The distribution of galaxies in space is not random. It instead traces a vast cosmic web, the largest structure in the universe. Born from tiny fluctuations in the early universe, this cosmic backbone influences the formation and evolution of galaxies. In this talk, we’ll explore the Cosmic Web, the scale and evolution of our universe, and I’ll share how my research investigates the role the Cosmic Web plays in driving galaxy evolution.

Damien holds a BSc in physics and astrophysics from UCT and completed his honours through the National Astrophysics and Space Science Programme (NASSP). He is busy completing his MSc at UCT where he works on the LADUMA survey, the deepest neutral hydrogen survey to date, using the MeerKAT telescope.

*Cash donations & Yoco machine will be available on the evening :)
