ABOUT
Lines – Album Launch
by Angus Hardcastle
7 February | Victoria Yards Courtyard, Johannesburg
Lines is the debut instrumental album by Angus Hardcastle. The project is rooted in groove and bass-led composition and is inspired by the work of South African bass players Carlo Mombelli, Spencer Mbadu, Sipho Gumede, Fana Zulu, Joseph Makwela, and Bhakiti Kumalo.
Each composition draws from different rhythmic and harmonic approaches found in their playing, shaping structured pieces built on strong rhythmic foundations and clear melodic development. The music is grounded in Angus’s studies of South African jazz and related traditions.
The band features Godfrey Mntambo on Saxophone, Enoch Marutha on Drums, Teboho Kobedi on Keyboards and Angus Hardcastle on bass.
Opening Artists
Teboho Kobedi
Teboho Kobedi is a South African pianist and composer whose music blends South African jazz traditions with reflective, melodic storytelling. He will be performing music from Pitso, a solo piano work exploring themes of calling, introspection, and purpose.
Amongst The People I Know (iamatpik) — Drums
Amongst The People I Know is the experimental project of drummer and producer Tebogo J. Mosane. Rooted in rhythm, improvisation, and community-driven sound, the project explores drums as both texture and narrative.
The album launch takes place in the courtyard at Victoria Yards, with drinks supplied by Primal Gin, from 5–9pm.
This is an outdoor, courtyard setting — feel free to bring picnic blankets if you’d like to sit on the grass.
