ABOUT
Join our word games party!
What is Words With Friends?
An evening of playful, fast-paced language fun. Think quick, quirky games — no endless Scrabble, no stressing over points.
Words With Friends is a new community event where people come together to explore the joy of language. Through word games, conversation, and collaborative creation, you’ll discover how words connect us — through curiosity, creativity, and shared laughs. The atmosphere is light, social, and welcoming.
Your hosts
Andie Reeves, teacher and founder of Cape Town Craft Club, and David Backwell, medical doctor, cognitive enthusiast, and writer behind The Mental Spectacle.
Why join us?
- Meet other cool people

- Carve out time to be playful and make things
- Hang out with friends in a fresh, fun way

- Or simply spend a few hours doing something different
What to expect
Arrive from 6 pm if you’d like to order dinner and settle in. Light games will be available while you wait.
From 7 pm, we dive into the main games — you’ll need your hands to write, draw, and gesture!
Our focus is collaboration, connection, and laughter, not winning or losing.
Games!
We’ll rotate through three playful stations:
- Our homemade Monikers: Think 30 Seconds meets charades meets Heads Up!
- Crossword & conversation station: A slower space for guided creating and chatting
- Telestrations: Broken telephone meets Pictionary for hilarious results
