ABOUT
FREE DIVE FORAGE ADVENTURE
Saturday 21 February
10am - 4pm
Discover the rich offerings of the local coastline, learn how to sustainably harvest and incorporate the ocean ingredients of Cape Town into your cooking while enjoying a wildly delicious ocean adventure!
What to Expect:
Join the Khoi Scouts and the Veld and Sea team to immerse yourself in the kelp forests and discover their magical underwater colours and flavours. Dive into the world of ocean ingredients under the expert guidance of trained divers, foragers and chefs.
During this half-day experience, we explore edible seaweeds and molluscs, learning how to legally, responsibly and sustainably harvest and interact with these beautiful and bountiful underwater gardens, while emphasising the importance of treating the ecosystem with care. You’ll also learn how to prepare and preserve your foraged finds through talks and interactive cooking demonstrations over an open fire. The day wraps up with a delicious lunch paired with botanical drinks, enjoyed in the Veld and Sea Glasshouse.
We’ll start the day at the beach with a free-diving and snorkelling session, beginning with breathwork, stretching and an ocean safety talk. We then dive in to discover how to identify and sustainably forage a variety of underwater ingredients. After our underwater adventure, we’ll drive approximately 15 minutes back to the Veld and Sea HQ near Cape Point, where you’ll be welcomed with refreshments.
Here, we’ll delve deeper into edible ocean ingredients, offering inspiration on how to incorporate these flavours, colours and textures into your cooking. The experience concludes with a multi-course, coastal-inspired meal created by our chefs, featuring your foraged finds alongside seasonal ingredients from our gardens and local farms.
