Helderberg Village Music Society Concert

The Helderberg Village Music Society is delighted to present a concert performed by Ensemble Strelitzia, a distinguished trio featuring Matthew Reid on clarinet, Jessica Bailey on cello, and Sue Patterson-Jones on piano. Each artist brings exceptional experience and artistry to the ensemble.

• Matthew Reid, well-known to Cape Town audiences, has performed extensively both locally and abroad and is admired for his versatility and expressive clarinet playing.
• Jessica Bailey, a gifted cellist who studied with internationally renowned teachers, also enjoys a successful parallel career as an artist and illustrator.
• Sue Patterson-Jones, an accomplished pianist with a Master’s degree from UCT and further studies in the USA, is a familiar name in chamber music circles and is widely respected for her sensitivity and musical insight.

Their programme features a wonderful mix of classical treasures and lively character pieces, including Beethoven’s Trio Op. 11, Glinka’s Trio Pathetique, and Schumann’s Three Romances. The second half brings a delightful change in mood, with tango-inspired works such as Jacob Gade’s Jealousy, Astor Piazzolla’s Oblivion, and Debussy’s playful Golliwog’s Cakewalk, all specially arranged for clarinet, cello, and piano.
