More on the Artist:
CARLA FRANCO is a fearless force in South Africa’s alternative music scene — a dynamic singer-songwriter whose raw authenticity and captivating live performances continue to leave a mark. Originally from Bloemfontein and now based in Cape Town, CARLA FRANCO is not only a powerful musical storyteller, but also a trailblazer who has defied the odds as a hearing-impaired artist. Born with a hearing loss in both ears and wearing hearing aids for most of her life, CARLA’s relationship with music began early — at just seven years old with her first piano lesson. Despite her hearing impairment, she never allowed her circumstances to define her. Her
resilience shines through her music, offering listeners a sound that is both emotionally rich and sonically diverse.
CARLA has never intended to be a one-stop-shop, and intentionally bends genres and explores genres both in her songwriting and studio releases.
CARLA FRANCO burst onto the scene with her debut album CHAPTER I in 2022, introducing a deeply personal and timeless body of work that laid the foundation for her evolving sound. In 2023, she returned with her critically acclaimed sophomore album LAYERS — a genrespanning project released in three stages, featuring 14 new songs and collaborations with six local artists. The album earned her a South African Music Award (SAMA) nomination for Best Alternative Album, and won the prestigious Afri-Indie Award for Best Album by an Artist with a Disability.
Carla Conrad is a fierce singer-songwriter whose music seamlessly blends pop and alternative elements, capturing raw emotion and powerful storytelling and a captivating blend of indie rock grit and alt-pop shimmer. Her rise in the music scene has been marked by her powerful, raw vocals and relatable lyrics that resonate with vulnerability and hope. Her journey as a singer-songwriter is rooted in her authentic storytelling and emotional depth.
Discovered on Instagram by Daniel Baron, her rise in the music scene has been marked by her powerful vocals and relatable lyrics. She is a rockandroller mixed with intriguing fragility, crafting songs that fuse the introspective heart of a singer-songwriter with the atmospheric edge of indie rock and the infectious, dreamy pulse of alt-pop, inviting listeners into a universe where every lyric feels like a personal confession.
Her live performances, often alongside acclaimed guitarist Rob Watt, bring her full sound to life, blending high-energy indie rock and alt-pop anthems with intimate, raw acoustic moments mid-set. This versatility allows Carla to command large festival stages and captivate smaller, intimate venues, delivering unforgettable shows that connect deeply with audiences and showcase her dynamic range as a performer.
Her 2024–2025 releases have solidified her as a rising indie rock and alt-pop singer-songwriter, with a string of singles—“Beast” (August 2024), “Forget to Breathe” (November 2024), “Feast” (April 2025), and “What Are We Afraid Of” (August 2025)—that weave a powerful narrative of resilience, self-love, and transformation, setting the stage for her upcoming EP.
