Amongst the vast repertoire of piano trios, ranging from Beethoven to Ligeti, exists several compact works by some of the greatest composers to grace us. These shorter works are sometimes difficult to include in programmes amongst the likes of the great Mendelssohn and Brahms trios, so we have selected four of our favourite to present in a concert titled “pocket trios”

On the programme? A one movement fire cracker by Edvard Grieg, the compact yet ethereal 3 movement trio by Amy Beach, and two early trio works by the great Russian masters, Sergei Rachmaninov and Dmitri Shostakovich

Join us at the Ian burgess Simpson piano studio, and have the opportunity to see the inner workings of some of the best pianos in the country, while enjoying these four piano trios with a glass of wine
