ABOUT
A New Year’s Eve Amahubo Symphony with Ijadu leAfrika
31 December 2025 | Doors Open at 19:00
The Chairman, Durban
Step into the threshold of a new year through a journey of spirit, memory, and restoration. Mbuso Khoza returns to The Chairman for a one-of-a-kind Amahubo Symphony that revives the ancient and the divine in preparation for 2026. This is more than a performance — it is a ritual of light and remembrance.
Rooted in the cosmology of the Zulu people and the sounds of the land, Sibuyisa Ukukhanya ("We Bring Back the Light") summons ancestral wisdom, spiritual awakening, and collective return. It honours those who came before - and makes way for what is to come.
The Experience:
- 6 Horns. 3-Piece Band. A Choir of Ancestors.
- Nomangungu invokes the sacred through spoken word.
- Anella Ngwenya offers homage to Inkosazana uNandi, matriarch and guide.
- Amahubo and Shembe hymns flow into jazz-fused symphonics, woven with the rhythmic memory of Africa.
- A communion with self, sound, and spirit as the year dissolves into new light.
This marks the second instalment of Mbuso Khoza’s residency at The Chairman - following his Battle of Isandlwana Commemorative Concert on 21 December with iJadu le Afrika, an afternoon of cultural excavation and reconnection to self through song.
