PRESS RELEASE

RMB Starlight Classics 2026 Illuminates the Stage with World Class Talent and Timeless Performances.

[Cape Town, February 2026] — Cultural calendar highlight, RMB Starlight Classics, returns in March 2026 with an inspiring celebration of classical and contemporary performances, bringing together internationally acclaimed musicians, rising stars, and unforgettable repertoire, all under RMB’s unique ArfroSymphonic banner.

Staged against the enchanting backdrop of Vergelegen’s Homestead and Wine Estate on Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th of March, this Starlight showcase promises a programme that honours tradition and captivates modern audiences, whilst pledging ongoing support to our nation’s creative economy.

Renowned for its artistic excellence and refined production, this Starlight line-up spans orchestral masterworks, alongside fresh interpretations and money-can’t-buy memories. Iconic works by Bizet, Rossini, Strauss, Chopin, Jim Steinman, Peter Gabriel, Laurika Rauch, Labrinth, and Alan Menken represent a taste of what the show has in store.

“We strive to present a program that balances history and innovation, with uniquely African collaborations that challenge the boundaries and versatility of the genres selected,” says Carolynne Waterhouse of RMB.

Highlights of the musically diverse program include esteemed South Africa mezzo-soprano Meghan Kahts, Operalia 2017 winner operatic and Bel canto tenor Levy Sekgapane, Afro-soul singer-songwriter and storyteller Msaki, rock icon Arno Castens, female pop trio Blackbyrd, rising star Sethabile Hlabangane, and introducing the future stars from The Luitingh Alexander Musical Theatre Academy. The show’s cornerstone is the world class Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, under the batons of Brandon Phillips, Chad Hendricks and Chevonne Plaatjies.

Exceptional young tenor Levy Sekgapane remarked “Starlight Classics in 2024 is a career highlight, and performing at home makes it extra special. I’m excited to be part of the upcoming musical spectacular in Cape Town this year.”

Starlight Classics reflects RMB’s ongoing dedication to cultural enrichment, African excellence, and the arts. For 25 years and counting, RMB has supported a range of platforms that elevate creativity, foster community, and shine a spotlight on the transformative power of music and art.

LAMTA Director, Anton Luitingh says, “Our mission statement has always been to expose our talented students to the very best that the global performing arts community can offer. What better way to do that than to collaborate with RMB’s prestigious Starlight Classics.”

The show’s creative director Darren Hayward is thrilled to return to Vergelegen’s Great Lawn, with a sterling 55-piece orchestra, mind-blowing technical detail, and talent that is internationally revered. “The programme takes many months to develop and execute, with some of the artists booked years in advance. With public demand far exceeding the ticket availability, I am thoroughly excited for the audiences to see what we deliver this year, our 27th year!”, says Hayward.

For both performances the gates open at 4pm, with shows commencing at 7:30pm.

Ticket holders are encouraged to bring along their picnic baskets, to enjoy world-class entertainment under the African sky.

Please note: Vergelegen’s award-winning wine will be available for purchase at discounted prices on the night - no other wines may be brought into the venue.

Tickets are available from Quicket R500 each
