Mr Trumpet Ndumiso Nyovane and his Quartet

Ndumiso Nyovane is a South African jazz trumpeter, singer, and actor from Soweto. He began playing at age 12 under the mentorship of Ray Nkwe and went on to perform with bands such as Varukweru and Harare, led by Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse. His style fuses township jazz, gospel, and African rhythms, reflecting a deep connection to South Africa’s musical heritage.

His acclaimed album Trumpet from Heaven re-imagines traditional gospel songs through jazz and earned a Crown Gospel Award nomination. Nyovane has graced major stages including the Joy of Jazz and Arts Alive festivals, and his versatile sound continues to bridge spiritual, traditional, and contemporary influences in South African music.

Alongside his musical career, he has acted in television series such as Tshisa, City Ses’la, and Zabalaza, as well as various commercials and voice-overs. His ability to blend artistry, heritage, and storytelling makes him a compelling figure for cultural collaborations or heritage-inspired projects such as those rooted in the Khoi and San legacy.
