Presented in collaboration with Barley’s Bloset x Nappy Studio
The Sewcial Workshop is coming to Cape Town! We're calling on all Bag Ladies to join us for a full-day, hands-on upcycling experience where guests of all ages and sewing levels can design and create their own tote bags using second-hand pieces from Barley’s Bloset. Materials, equipment, refreshments, and creative guidance are all provided — all you have to bring is yourself!
Facilitated by historian and textile artist, Khensani Mohlatlole, In collaboration with Barley’s Bloset and Nappy Studio, we’re inviting guests of all ages and sewing experience to spend a cosy day creating, connecting, and celebrating slow fashion.
This session will guide you through designing and making your own upcycled tote bag from second-hand clothing and waste fabric sourced from Barley’s Bloset and Khensani's humongous hoard. Whether you’re a total beginner or an experienced maker, you’ll receive hands-on guidance, design advice, and creative support throughout the day.
Together, we’ll explore techniques like hand and machine sewing, embroidery, beading, crochet, and appliqué, with plenty of room for creative experimentation and personal expression.

Venue: Barley’s Bloset, 114 Lower Main Road, Observatory, Cape Town
All materials, tools, and refreshments will be provided — bring yourself and your imagination.
Expect a relaxed, community-focused atmosphere where you can slow down, meet new people, and rediscover the joy of making things by hand.
