Experience a magical evening hike at Muratie Wine Estate, where the sunset meets the rising full moon! Bring along a picnic and enjoy breathtaking views with a glass of Muratie’s award-winning wine. After sunset, continue the adventure as the trail winds back through the forest, illuminated by your headlamp under the full moon.
The circular route takes hikers on a marked trail that takes 30 to 50 minutes to the look-out going up, depending on your pace of course. Plan your arrival from 5.45pm at the Trail Centre, but no later than 6.45pm.
The 3.5km total route leads to a lookout point (at about 2km), where you can marvel at views of Simonsberg, the Winelands, and even Table Mountain. Here, you can buy four Muratie wines from the MCC, Dry Rose, Sauvignon Blanc or the Melck’s Dry Red blend.
After sunset & moonrise (by 19h40), it only takes about 25 to 40 minutes back to Dirtopia Trail Centre.
What to Bring:
- A backpack with your own food/picnic and blanket for the lookout point.
- Jacket/sweater for after dark.
- A torch or headlamp.
- Good walking or hiking shoes for varied terrain.
What to Expect:
- Muratie wines by the glass or bottle is available at the look-out.
- Snacks like chips & energy bars and cooldrinks are on sale at the Trail Centre, where you’ll also collect your permit on arrival.
Schedule:
- Arrival: From 17:45 (latest start: 18:45).
- Latest descent from the lookout: 20:00.
- Return to Trail Centre: 20:00–20:30, depending on your pace.
