ABOUT
Join us for the Opening of "Emergent Visions - Unseen, Undreamt Possibilities" at 27 Boxes, 4th Avenue Melville.
In this group exhibition, six distinctive yet interconnected artistic voices—Alpheus Ngoepe, Bekezela Mabena, Nwabisa Ntlokowana, Mpho Machate and Khotso Motsoeneng—gather to imagine what lies just beyond perception. Their works move between the personal and the collective, the visible and the invisible, the dreamt and the not-yet-dreamed. Together, they open portals to unseen, undreamt possibilities.
In a city layered by histories of migration, rupture, and regeneration, image-making becomes a way of conjuring futures not yet realised. This exhibition looks beyond visibility towards the thresholds of imagination—where forms, gestures, and memories unfold into what could be. Each artist offers a different glimpse into this speculative terrain.
– Some works map psychic and physical geographies, where landscapes hold whispers of forgotten histories and colour becomes a language of remembering.
– Others tend to the body and its shadows—how inner worlds radiate outward, how identity flickers between clarity and obscurity.
– All explore transformation as a process of becoming: of materials, of selves, of meaning itself.
Rather than declaring what is, this exhibition asks what might still be possible. What is yet unseen, unspoken, unformed—but stirring beneath the surface?
This exhibition presents artworks by:
- Alpheus Ngoepe explores the intersection of emotion and colour, revealing how structure and intuition can together trace psychological and spiritual terrains.
- Bekezela Mabena works with mapping and memory, where roots, migration, and home reconfigure each other.
- Nwabisa Ntlokowana reflects on visibility—who comes into focus, who remains blurred—and how power and tenderness shape that gaze.
- Mpho Machate interlaces the scientific with the unseen, opening possibilities for a transformation in seeing.
- Khotso Motsoeneng channels energy and flux—urban pulse, rural rhythm, personal myth—into visual languages of becoming.
- Lindelwa Mathebula who explores hidden worlds in plain sight.
Together they create a constellation of potential: distinct stars illuminating unseen relations and undreamt alignments.
