Gabi Motuba Concert @ Gorgeous George

Gabi Motuba is coming directly from her tour in Brazil where she graced the formidable Sesc Jazz festival stage. She is bringing her band configured for the Gorgeous George stage where she will be accompanied by Reza Khota on guitar, Themba Mashobane on cello and Josh Nemaire on double bass. This performance, Gabi Motuba, is describing as a "meditation of sound". She is currently exploring meditative sounds that echo frequencies of grief. Gabi Motuba writes: "My interest in sound allows me to entertain the idea that each emotion carries a particular frequency and to be able to reveal that frequency is to begin to suspend its impact and allow one to process its experience in real time"

This show is part of the concert series by Gabi Motuba and Tumi Mogorosi called Black Jazz meets Black Classical. This concert series is there to showcase some of the musicians based in Johannesburg who are exploring experimental works. The project is supported by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture in South Africa.
