Overview:
Children who have experienced abuse carry invisible wounds that can shape their behaviour, relationships, and development. As professionals, our response can either help to heal or unintentionally cause further harm. This CPD-accredited, self-paced online training provides you with a clear, practical framework for embedding trauma-informed care into everyday practice with children.
Grounded in neuroscience, child protection legislation, and evidence-based strategies, this training is both interactive and skills-focused, ensuring participants leave with tools they can immediately apply in their work with children and families.
What you will learn:
By the end of the training, you will be able to:
- Understand ACEs and trauma types, and recognise trauma responses in children.
- Apply the principles of trauma-informed care (safety, trust, empowerment, cultural humility).
- Interpret behaviours through a neurobiological lens and support regulation.
- Show up for children with relational presence, attunement, and co-regulation strategies.
- Use grounding techniques to help children (and yourself) manage overwhelming moments.
- Navigate ethical responsibilities in line with South African child protection laws.
- Address cultural and systemic trauma while sustaining your own wellbeing in the face of vicarious trauma.
Who should attend?
This training is designed for all professionals working with children, including those in child protection, social services, education, health, justice, private practice, and other allied fields. It is also open to individuals who wish to participate without completing it for CPD points.
Why attend?
This is more than a training; it’s an opportunity to strengthen your capacity to make a lasting difference in children’s lives. You’ll walk away with a comprehensive manual, practical tools, and effective strategies to create environments of safety and healing for the children who need it most.
CPD Accreditation
Completion of the reading of the guide, watching of the videos, and submission of the Quiz and Feedback Form are required for CPD certification.
