ABOUT
The Johannesburg Parent & Child Counselling Centre (JPCCC) invites you to take part in our Working with Children Course: a supportive and practical space to deepen your counselling skills and learn how to engage meaningfully with children through developmentally attuned methods.
About JPCCC
For more than 75 years, JPCCC has been part of Johannesburg’s mental health landscape. Originally founded as the Johannesburg Child Guidance Clinic, our centre has evolved into one of the city’s leading counselling and training organisations serving children, adolescents, couples, families, and schools. We believe that by equipping caring individuals with practical, compassionate counselling skills, we help strengthen not only individuals, but entire communities.
About the Course
For over 20 years, JPCCC’s counselling courses have helped people begin or deepen their ability to support others. The Working with Children Course builds on foundational counselling skills and focuses on adapting your approach when working with children. You’ll explore play-based and developmentally appropriate methods that foster trust, safety, and emotional growth.
This course is ideal for those who are:
- Already equipped with basic counselling skills (through JPCCC or elsewhere).
- Interested in understanding how to work more effectively with children.
- Wanting to expand their scope for volunteering or professional development.
- Passionate about supporting children’s emotional wellbeing.
Why Online Training?
This course is offered online only, allowing participants from across South Africa and beyond to join. The virtual format offers flexibility while maintaining rich interaction through guided discussions, demonstrations, and reflective exercises with an experienced trainer.
Why This Course Matters
Children experience and express emotions differently from adults, and their worlds often need to be understood through play, creativity, and careful attunement. This course helps you develop the confidence and sensitivity needed to meet children where they are — with curiosity, empathy, and skill.
