ABOUT
The Johannesburg Parent & Child Counselling Centre (JPCCC) invites you to take part in our Basic & Intermediate Counselling Skills Course: a transformative space to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to your community.
About JPCCC
For more than 75 years, JPCCC has been part of Johannesburg’s mental health landscape. Originally founded as the Johannesburg Child Guidance Clinic, our centre has evolved into one of the city’s leading counselling and training organisations serving children, adolescents, couples, families, and schools. We believe that by equipping caring individuals with practical, compassionate counselling skills, we help strengthen not only individuals, but entire communities.
About the Course
For over 20 years, JPCCC’s counselling courses have helped people begin or deepen their ability to support others. The Basic & Intermediate Counselling Skills Course offers both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice, helping you learn to listen with empathy, respond with care, and engage meaningfully with the emotional world of those you support.
This course is ideal for those who are:
- Looking to begin their journey in counselling or community support.
- Hoping to join JPCCC’s volunteer counselling programme in 2026.
- Wanting to refresh or refine their interpersonal and helping skills.
- Interested in personal growth and developing emotional insight.
Why In-Person Training?
Counselling is a deeply relational practice - it thrives on human connection. Our in-person format allows participants to engage in live demonstrations, role plays, and group discussions where participants can practise reading nonverbal cues, build confidence, and learn through real-time feedback and shared reflection.
Why This Course Matters
There is a growing gap between the emotional support our communities need and the number of professionals available to provide it. This course helps bridge that gap by preparing caring, grounded individuals to offer responsible, empathic support.
