Funds raised will go towards the ongoing treatment of our Little Lovebug, Rania De Vries.

Rania was born on the 10th September 2012 by emergency caesarian section due to a weakened heartbeat. Her expected due date was 1 November 2012. During delivery the Doctors discovered a knot in the umbilical cord.

At birth, she weighed 1.4kgs and was absolutely beautiful. She was shown to us for just a minute before being rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She spent a little under 2 months in hospital.

Two days before she was due to come home, the Doctor did the 28 days sonar and informed us that she had suffered brain damage, known as Periventricular Leukomalacia.

At 6 months old, the Pediatrician further diagnosed her with Cerebral Palsy. All four her limbs are spastic. She is a very happy little girl. She babbles, laughs and loves anything sweet. She tries very hard to play and absolutely loves music.

Since January 2013, she has continued Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and some Speech therapy exercises with little success. Further to the above we have been blessed to discover a method of therapy known as the Anat Baniel Method and a surgery known as SPML. Rania has had 10 lessons during 2014 and 30 lessons thus far in 2015.

As previously stated she is a very happy little girl, despite her challenges. She loves to smile, play and be part of all activities around her. Every parent desires to give their child the best they possibly can and therefore we have embarked on raising funds for Rania’s continuous therapy, medical needs and costs.

Currently the ABM therapy is only available from international practitioners and costs thereof are paid in dollars. The SPML surgery is only partially covered by medical aid, besides the fact that it is only done in the United States of America. She goes for normal physiotherapy twice a week and this always exhausts the annual funds available by medical aids. Stimulating equipment such as playpacks, scoots and upsees, which are beneficial to children with special needs has recently become available in South Africa but at costs of R8000 up, depending on which equipment you are purchasing.

For all these reasons we have embarked on fundraising efforts for Rania.
