ABOUT
Join our word games party!
What is Words With Friends?
An evening of fun and play built around language, games, and shared experiences. Think quick, quirky games — strictly playful, fast, and fun. No endless Scrabble, no stressing over points.
Words With Friends is a playful new community event that brings people together through the joy of language. Across word games, conversation, and collaborative creation, participants explore how words connect us — through fun, curiosity, and shared invention. The atmosphere is light, social, and curious.
The event features four rotating stations of language-based play, encouraging you to move, mingle, and contribute to a growing communal archive of words, meanings, and, yes, friendship!
The evening is guided by Andie Reeves, teacher and founder of Cape Town Craft Club, and David Backwell, medical doctor, cognitive enthusiast, and writer behind The Mental Spectacle.

What to expect
Arrive from 6 pm if you'd like to order dinner and settle in. We will also have some light games floating around.
From 7 pm, we’ll be playing games, so you’ll need your hands to write, draw, and gesture!
Our games aren’t about winning or losing; they’re about collaborating, connecting, and having a laugh together.
Games!
We will be moving through 4 stations across the evening:
- Our homemade version of Monikers: like 30 Seconds meets charades meets Heads Up!
- A crossword-making station
- A conversation table where you make your own new word!
- Telestrations: like broken telephone meets Pictionary!
Make with mates...
Everyone’s welcome — bring a friend or two.
...Or come solo
Words With Friends is a friendly, welcoming space and a great way to meet new people. Don’t be shy about coming alone; we'll be sure to make you feel at home.
What to bring
All materials are provided. Just bring an open mind, a curious spirit, and a warm, playful energy.
