56TH DIAMOND MARATHON – PRESENTED BY KIMBERLEY HARRIERS
7 MARCH 2026 @ ST PATRICK’S CBC SPORT FIELD
KIMBERLEY HARRIERS DIAMOND MARATHON
HISTORY: In 2021, this flat and fast marathon was the first road race in the Northern Cape to return to the road in the second half of the year, after the world went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Diamond Marathon is one of the largest Marathons in the Northern Cape.
It was Sarge Ball, George MacCallum and Jimmy Glover who founded Kimberley Harriers Running Club in 1969 to have the necessary club affiliation to allow them to run in the Comrades Marathon. Unfortunately, George & Jimmy passed on. Sarge Ball has completed 23 Comrades Marathons. In 1993 Sarge stopped running Comrades, he called it a day at Polly Shorts. He moved to Scottburgh in 1994 and turned 92 on 28 March. He has become a gym instructor. Enjoys cycling, unfortunately after a hip replacement, he stopped running.
Kimberley Harriers Running Club is the oldest running club in the Northern Cape. The first Diamond Marathon (42,2km race) took place in 1970. It is also the 2nd oldest marathon in the country. We will be hosting the 56th Diamond Marathon. We hope to continue with our mission to present a well-organized event and to improve tourism in Kimberley. The Diamond Marathon is also a Comrades & Two Oceans qualifying event for 2026.
