Zenzele Mthembu-Salter's Future Kwela Album Launch Listening Party

Join us for an intimate listening party celebrating the debut album Future Kwela by bassist and composer Zenzele Mthembu-Salter. Drawing on the spirit of South African kwela music while pushing its boundaries into modern jazz expression, Future Kwela reimagines heritage through groove, improvisation, and a fresh sonic palette.

The listening party is presented in collaboration with Word of Mouth, an organisation dedicated to research, access, and community around South African jazz. Throughout the evening, the album will be played in curated sections, each followed by a conversation between Zenzele and Rèné du Toit, director of Word of Mouth. Together, they’ll unpack the creative process, influences, and narratives woven into the music.

Hosted at the warm and atmospheric Axminster House in Muizenberg, the listening party offers an opportunity to engage with the work shortly after its public release on 12 December.

The evening is also a great way for attendees to connect with fellow music lovers in the city and share a communal experience with one South Africa's brightest young voices in music.
