The Call- A Queer reimagining of the Tempest
Sun Nov 9, 14:00 - Sun Nov 9, 16:00
The Outlore Base
ABOUT
Step into the world of The Call The Call is a groundbreaking new queer African musical that reimagines Shakespeare’s The Tempest with radical joy, soaring music, and the brilliance of African drag.
Set on a mythical island that echoes both Cape Town and Robben Island, the story follows a group of shipwrecked South Africans who encounter an exiled figure with extraordinary powers. What begins as a tale of revenge transforms into a celebration of forgiveness, belonging, and self-discovery. This isn’t Shakespeare as you know it. Infused with African rhythms, spectacular drag artistry, and a powerful queer lens, The Call centers identities too often silenced and turns them into the beating heart of the story.
It is a musical that insists on the beauty, resilience, and color of queer life on the African continent — and invites audiences everywhere to witness its brilliance. Audiences can expect unforgettable music, dazzling performance, and a story that speaks to exile, identity, and joy in ways that resonate far beyond the stage.
