ABOUT

Discover the world of visible mending in this hands-on workshop with fibresmith Holly Kane.
Move beyond simple repairs and embrace mending as a creative practice. This workshop celebrates the beauty of the imperfect, turning damage into decorative features that add character and story to your favourite pieces.
What you'll create:
You'll master the woven darning technique - a foundational skill that opens up endless creative possibilities. Starting with the fundamentals of tool selection and material matching, you'll quickly progress onto the exciting part: exploring how different colours, textures, and weave patterns can transform a simple mend into a work of art.
The creative focus includes:
- Playing with colour combinations and contrasts
- Experimenting with different yarn textures and weights
- Exploring varied weave patterns
- Learning to see damage as an opportunity for creative expression
You'll begin practicing on provided fabric samples, giving you confidence before working on your own pieces. You're welcome to bring in items to mend once you've mastered the basics.
What's included:
- Use of all the tools and materials you'll need during the workshop
- Handmade ceramic darning mushrooms to work with
- Practice fabric to test out your skills
- Guidance on colour theory and design choices
- Optional toolkits and ceramic darning mushrooms available for purchase
- Tea and coffee throughout the session
- plus, all workshop attendees will receive a 15% discount voucher from the Brush & Canvas Art Supply Store in Claremont and a discount off your favourite coffee at Spencer Cafe across the road.
