ABOUT
The Free State Symphony Orchestra proudly presents the East Meets West concert on Saturday, 18 October 2025, at 19:30, in the Sand du Plessis Theatre, Bloemfontein.
Under the baton of acclaimed Taiwanese conductor Ho Chung Yeh, the programme offers a rich blend of classical works and contemporary treasures, featuring timeless favorites and three African premieres. Renowned Taiwanese soloist Hui Chiu (Chinese bamboo flutes) and South African flautist Handri Loots join the orchestra for this remarkable occasion, bridging cultures and traditions through music.
The programme includes:
- Mozart: Overture to The Marriage of Figaro
- Wang Chenwei: Thaipusam (African Premiere)
- Tang Jianping: Flying Song (African Premiere)
- Wang Chenwei: Winds of Affinity (African Premiere)
- Schumann: Symphony No. 2
