ABOUT

Ukubungaza ~ To Celebrate

Over the past ten months, the Kinship Programme has nurtured a vibrant community of ECD teachers in Inanda who have uncovered their deep connection to the earth, their own potential, and the potential of the children they teach.

Through our Community Embedded Environmental Education Programme, they have explored new ways of engaging with the environment and embraced fresh teaching approaches to share this wisdom with their learners. Their journey has taken them into the Drakensberg mountains, through indigenous knowledge traditions, into pristine natural spaces with their children, and on excursions that opened new worlds of discovery. They have learned to craft their own teaching resources from nature and waste, studied earth and environmental concepts, dedicated countless Saturdays to training, and reflected deeply on their practice. They even spent time at Manyoni Nature Reserve with the Zululand Conservation Trust.

This commitment, energy, and growth deserve to be honoured.

Ukubungaza is our way of saying thank you. Join us for a delicious African-inspired meal—prepared by our CEEE teachers themselves—followed by an evening of authentic Kinship entertainment, featuring performances from our Kinship community (including children from Kincottage, Kinship and Ekuthuleni). The evening will be guided by the sparkling energy of Karen van Pletzen, and will also include an auction to support our future work. A cash bar will be available.

Most importantly, Ukubungaza is a moment to celebrate our community, to thank those who have made the CEEE programme possible, and to look forward together at the possibilities for 2026.

With food, music, connection and joy, Ukubungaza promises an evening alive with the true African spirit.
