ABOUT
Join us for a hands-on introduction to the art of hand embroidery, at the Oranjezicht City Farm. This workshop is ideal for those passionate about plants and crafts, offering a unique opportunity to explore botanical themes through embroidery.
We will start from the basics of hand embroidery: threading a needle, learning about fabrics, choosing threads, and getting to know plants in the garden, using them as inspiration.
You will learn step by step how to start your first embroidery project.
Your instructor will be Ana Maria, from @bordarbordar an embroidery artist from Costa Rica living in Cape Town (who is also a garden enthusiast and a landscape architect).

- All materials needed during the workshop (fabric, embroidery threads, needle, scissors, and hoop to use in class)

- A take-home stitch guide with illustrated instructions and curated embroidery patterns

Themes:
(1) the fundamentals of the materials used for embroidery (fabric, threads, hoop and needle), how to prepare them and work with them.
(2) a quick introduction to plants around the farm to use as reference
(3) the basic embroidery stitches used in floral and botanical embroidery
(4) how to start and finish a small embroidery project.
This is a workshop perfect for beginners, no experience or knowledge needed. Intended for participants +10yrs.
Each participant will be provided with all the materials needed for the workshop and will take a small project home.
