ABOUT
Honouring a legacy of love and wisdom. South African composer, vocalist, and traditional instrumentalist Lu Dlamini launched her brand new album Gido in June 2025. The album is a tribute to Lu’s late mother, Kitomena “Gido” uMakhuzwayo. Her mother’s life lessons are the spiritual backbone of this project. A musical Ode to a Mother’s Teachings and a call for Unity.
Gido is a contribution that is more than just a collection of songs; it is a tapestry of untold stories, a bridge between past and present, and a melodic plea for unity in a world still healing from division.
Each track weaves a narrative, honouring the wisdom of Ubuntu, a philosophy passed down through family and the shared human experience.
Featured in the Album is the rare and evocative sounds of one of South Africa’s one string Bows called Umakhweyana, in harmony with the piano, songs that are a testament to the power of ancient and modern sounds converging to create something truly transcendent.
In a country like South Africa, where so many stories remain unheard, music becomes a voice of the unspoken, says Lu Dlamini. This Album is not about dwelling on the past but learning from it, finding strength in our shared humanity and moving forward with compassion.
Join Lu Dlamini and Band at the prestigious Hue Café, where she will accompanied by Riley Giandhari on Drums, Zibusiso Makhathini on Piano, Ntobeko Shandu on Bass, Marius Botha on Guitar.
