After a beautiful showcase and kick-off in Durban — and by popular request from our Johannesburg audience — we are delighted to finally bring Love Stories and Songs to the city. On this rare occasion, the Makhathinis open the doors to their love affair with music, sharing how it has shaped their lives, their bond, and their family.

From first meeting as music students at Technikon Natal to building a life together, music has always been at the centre of Omagugu and Nduduzo’s journey.

When they married and created a home, their combined collection of CDs, LPs, and books revealed not only shared tastes but a profound resonance in how they both hear, feel, and live through music.

Love Stories and Songs traces these sonic convergences — weaving together personal stories and the songs that hold meaning for them. It is also a meditation on Black love expressed through sound: reclaiming space for tenderness, romance, and intimacy too often denied by colonial narratives. With a special focus on Black South African love songs, the concert affirms their beauty, depth, and the enduring language of affection.
