ABOUT

Behind every smile is a story. Behind every silence is a song. And behind every face, maybe—just maybe—a mask.

Join Karibu Poetry on Saturday, 27 September, in Cape Town for a night of raw truth, hidden identities, and unmasking the selves we show (and the ones we hide). In honor of Heritage Day in South Africa, our theme, “Masks We Wear,” invites poets, singers, and comedians to peel back the layers, expose the costumes, and maybe even laugh at the disguises we carry through life.

This isn’t just an open mic, but a safe stage for vulnerability, courage, and creativity. Whether you want to share your most haunting verses, your funniest alter ego, or a song that unmasks the soul, the mic is yours.

  • Expect powerful poetry, soulful music, and unexpected bursts of comedy.
  • All performers are welcome—newcomers, veterans, shower singers, and secret scribblers.
  • The only rule? Bring your truth (and maybe your mask).

Come prepared to share a poem, sing, laugh, or simply just listen. At Karibu Poetry, everyone is family, and everyone belongs.

Email us at [email protected] if you'd like to perform, or pop us a message on our socials.

The exact venue will be confirmed via email.
