ABOUT

Lots of art, walking, talking in food in this Woodstock based-event that takes you into artist studios. In celebration of Women’s month art commentator and consultant Mary Corrigall has curated a second iteration of this artcrawl for Cape Town art lovers. This iteration is focussed on how female artists employ or challenge nature in their art.  How do different female artists represent women, themselves, or deal with gender in their art?  In this guided tour through artist studios in Woodstock, you will meet Sanell Aggenbach, and at Greatmore Studios; Thania Peterson and Kimathi Mafafo.

In these intimate industrial settings Corrigall will tease out each artist’s unique perspective on gender and art. Visitors will be treated to a preview of works created by Aggenbach and Mafafo for their upcoming solo exhibitions at Whatiftheworld in Joburg and Ebony/Curated in Cape Town respectively. Peterson regularly exhibits at Everard Read and will give deeper insight into the series that will be exhibited in the opening exhibition at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary African Art

The Crawl takes place on August 26, beginning at 10.30 am in the heart of gentrified Woodstock, in the courtyard at Tribe, The Foundry, 160 Albert Road. It will conclude with a suitably intersectional gastronomic affair at the Cinta Food Market, where you can graze on Asian, African or Malay artisan cuisine. Space is limited and booking in advance is essential. Tickets cost R350 (lunch is not included).
