Sunbird Center, Silvermine Road
ABOUT
Join the Sugarbird teams in clearing invasive species in the Silvermine River Valley starting on Saturday the 30th of August, and continuing on every Saturday in September. Please book your spot.
We hope to continue our volunteer Saturdays into October and November.
We have to limit the numbers to 50 so please do sign-up on a day that suits you and that you know you will be able to attend. The location may change but you will be notified via email.
Everyone is welcome and this is a family friendly event, children over 6 will probably get the most enjoyment out of this and please note they do need to be supervised at all time.
Don't forgot to bring: Water, hat, sunblock, rain gear, gloves and a small hand-held garden fork.
We are working in the valley and the terrain is easy to navigate consisting of gentle hills.
Please note there are no ablution facilities.
We kindly request that you do not bring your dogs.
Please join our Whatsapp group for updates
** If you would like to join us in the week there is no need to book, you are welcome to arrive at The Sunbird Centre around 8:30 and join the teams. We will communicate more via our whatsapp community group.

Following the devastating fire that swept through the Tokai and Silvermine area in April 2025, the mountain needs our help to fight the explosion of invasive vegetation that will start to flourish in September.
The fire triggered the germination of up to 90% of invasive seeds buried in the soil. These fast growing species will soon outcompete native plants. Unless we act now. We have a narrow 4-month window while the soil is soft and seedlings are small. If we miss it, the cost, ecological and financial, will be enormous.
