John Battersby performed for many years around South Africa and abroad in the

Indie-rock inspired band Red Tape Riot. After a short hiatus from the local music

scene, he reached out to friends and fellow musical cohorts to participate in a new musical endeavour titled ‘John Battersby Band’.

John Battersby Band is made up of John himself on Vocals and Guitar, Marc Klein

(Red Tape Riot) on Drums, Guitarist Tristan Bell (BRYNN) and CJ Duckitt on Bass

(Murray). The experience of this group of musicians is exemplified in their professional approach to production and performance.

John Battersby Band at its core, feeds off John’s prolific songwriting since the

start of 2022 when he returned to the scene and started putting the full 4 piece outfit together.

John’s lyrics are filled with nostalgic tones of simple pleasures, friendship, belonging, warm days of summer, the comfort and warmth of connecting with

mates and letting time sit still for a moment. Tristan’s melodic guitar line take on a life of their own, giving true accompaniment to the lyrical narrative.

Mark and CJ drive the rhythm section embracing the authenticity of the prose. Combining new and old sounds, the band’s Foot-tapping influences range

from The Killers, War on Drugs and The Black Keys to Dire Straits, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Fleetwood Mac. John

Battersby Band creates music that is familiar, instantly accessible, yet lingers with fondness and nostalgia, brining the listener back over and over again.
