ABOUT
*** Special Stargazing Event ***
This isn’t just another night under the stars—it’s your front-row seat to a breathtaking Total Lunar Eclipse! While partial or penumbral eclipses happen a couple of times a year, a total lunar eclipse — where the Moon is completely cloaked in Earth’s shadow — is a far rarer spectacle, visible from any one location only about once every 2.5 years.
On Sunday, September 7th, you can choose from two unforgettable viewing slots:
6:00pm SOLD OUT
- Watch the brilliant full Moon slowly being swallowed by Earth’s shadow until it’s fully eclipsed, through super telescopes.
- Laser guided sky tour
- We'll also be observing a host of other celestial objects through the telescopes, like double stars, clusters, asterisms and constellations.
8:30pm:
- See Earth's shadow retreat as the Moon reclaims its full radiance, through super telescopes.
- Laser guided sky tour
- We'll also be observing a host of other celestial objects through the telescopes, like double stars, clusters, asterisms and constellations.
You'll even get a chance to take a pic of the moon with your phone through a telescope!
Your guide, Vicus Cruywagen — a passionate telescope maker and avid observer of the night sky — will kick-off each session with a fascinating talk about the universe and the wonders you’ll observe. Then, you’ll have the rare opportunity to view these celestial marvels through high-powered telescopes.
Escape the city’s hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in the breathtaking dark skies at Kloof Rus, near Muldersdrift. Nestled in wide-open plains with not a single building in sight, this serene location offers the perfect recipe for an unforgettable outdoor adventure. No hiking is needed—simply drive up to our observation spot via a short dirt road (no 4x4 required).
Bring your favorite food and drinks, settle in under the stars, and let the soothing sounds of nature surround you. You might even hear the majestic roar of lions from the nearby Rhino & Lion Reserve, adding a wild touch to this celestial evening.
Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime event. Gather your friends and family, and let’s explore the universe together!

Event Attendance & Guidelines
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before starting time.
* Light Etiquette: Avoid white lights to preserve night vision; use red lights instead. An easy option is wrapping a torch in several layers of red cellophane, secured by an elastic band.
* Weather and Clothing: We'll be outdoors, so dress warm.
* Insect Protection: During summer, mosquito repellent is recommended.
* Food and Seating: You may bring your own snacks and drinks - there are no restaurants. Bring a camping chair along - picnic blankets are also welcome.
* Ticket Policy: Tickets are non-refundable. If the weather doesn’t cooperate and we need to postpone, don’t worry, your ticket(s) can be moved to any other general public stargazing event of your choice within the next year (subject to space, as each event has limited capacity).
