The Odeion School of Music proudly presents Journeys, an exquisite evening of music featuring internationally acclaimed violist Jeanne-Louise Moolman, and distinguished pianists Elna van der Merweand Piet Moolman. This concert promises to transport audiences through a captivating selection of works by Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev, and Franz Schubert.


The programme includes the hauntingly beautiful Sonata for Viola and Piano, Op. 147 by Shostakovich, a selection from Prokofiev’s iconic ballet Romeo and Juliet in a masterful arrangement for viola and piano by Vadim Borisovsky, and excerpts from Schubert’s poignant song cycle Die Winterreise.


About the Artists

Jeanne-Louise Moolman, appointed violist of the Odeion String Quartet and Senior Lecturer at the Odeion School of Music in 2008, has built an illustrious career as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator. Her studies under Alan Solomon at the University of Pretoria and Thomas Riebl in Salzburg laid the foundation for numerous competition victories, including the ATKV Forté and Oude Meester competitions. She has performed extensively in South Africa and Zimbabwe alongside some of the country’s foremost musicians.


Piet Moolman, a respected music educator at Oranje Meisies Secondary School, holds both BMus Hons and MMus degrees from the University of Pretoria. A frequent chamber music partner to his wife Jeanne-Louise, he has performed across South Africa and Zimbabwe, earning acclaim for his musical sensitivity and collaborative artistry.


Elna van der Merwe, one of South Africa’s most sought-after collaborative pianists, boasts an impressive career as a performer and educator. A graduate of Stellenbosch University, she has been the accompanist of choice for countless national and international artists, appearing in all UNISA International competitions since 1990. Her work includes numerous acclaimed recordings, both audio and visual.
