More about the Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) Series

2 Recordings + 2 Questionnaires, also presented by Juazel de Villiers.

In this two part series, the presenter unpacks Demand Avoidance.

Session 1: Demand Sensitivity in Neurodiversity: Empathetetic Understanding

In Session 1, she explores the concept of demand avoidance, as well as more specifically Pervasive Drive for Autonomy (PDA), also referred to as Pathological Demand Avoidance or Extreme Demand Avoidance. She aims to deepen our understanding by examining characteristics, sensitivity in nervous system, and how it may be experienced by different individuals. The session is from a neuroaffirming approach, recognizing and valuing the diversity of neurodevelopmental identity.

Session 2: Creating Safe Spaces: Support for Individuals with Demand Sensitivity

Building on session 1, session 2 focuses on support strategies regarding demand avoidance and sensitive nervous system. This session session discusses how to create safe and supportive environments that respect and accommodate the unique needs of those with demand avoidance and or a strong drive for autonomy. She explores neuroaffirming approaches that aim to empower individuals and promote positive interactions.
