In this powerful and practical masterclass, Emma Sadleir, South Africa’s leading expert on social media and digital law, provides parents with a wake-up call. Drawing on real cases, legal insights and years of experience, she unpacks the digital risks faced by every child with access to the internet and empowers parents with the tools to respond.

What You’ll Learn:

  • The truth about platforms like Snapchat, TikTok, Discord, Finstas and WhatsApp
  • How screen time and device addiction affect sleep, anxiety, and behaviour
  • Why exposure to pornography is happening earlier than ever and what it is doing to our kids
  • The dangers of sexting, nudes and WhatsApp groups and how a child can be criminally charged
  • How digital footprints can last a lifetime and impact education, travel and work
  • What to do if your child is being bullied, groomed or coerced into sharing images
  • How to create rules around devices, boundaries and online conduct
  • What legal rights parents and schools have, and where they do not

Real Case Highlight: Emma vs Meta Platforms

In a first-of-its-kind legal victory, Emma Sadleir and The Digital Law Company forced Meta (owner of Instagram and WhatsApp) to hand over the identities behind more than 30 accounts distributing explicit content involving South African schoolchildren.

This urgent court application resulted in Meta formally accepting South African jurisdiction, disclosing user data, and committing to removing over 60 accounts. A direct hotline was also established between Emma’s legal team and Meta for rapid reporting of future threats.

This case highlights the terrifying speed at which inappropriate content can spread and the importance of early intervention and strong parenting.
