ABOUT
L8 Antique is a 5-piece band from Johannesburg,
South Africa, formed by Lebo Mahlatji in 2007. With a
unique sound that blends traditional South African
tribal music with urban genres, they embody the
country's cultural diversity. Their music style,
Shugumisa, is rooted in diverse South African tribes
and has an upbeat, world-class feel.
The band has shared stages with prominent artists
like Pops Mohammed, Lira, and Vusi Mahlasela, and
has performed at notable events such as the
International Arts Alive Festival and the Standard
Bank Joy of Jazz. They were voted Johannesburg's No.
1 band by the Gauteng Department of Sports Arts
Culture & Recreation in 2011.
L8 Antique's music has been featured in various films,
documentaries, and campaigns, including the award-
winning Breaking Ballet Campaign. They were
semifinalists in the Afropunk Battle of the Bands in
2017.
Their mission is to showcase the evolution of African
culture in an upbeat society, and their vision is to
make waves globally with their music. Their upcoming
single, "Umbila" (meaning "maize/corn" in Inguni
language), addresses social issues and features
Mr.VinceSA.
With their enchanting sound inspired by African folk
music and a lot of chanting, L8 Antique is set to take
the music scene by storm. Catch them live for a transformative experience!
