Introduction to Urban Sketching with Di Metcalf

This introductory workshop is held by Di Metcalf, an extremely talented illustrator, urban sketcher, visual storyteller and bookmaker who is from Cape Town.

Di engages with colour, light and form sharing the world around her by illustrating the stories unfolding in her environment.

"Anyone can record their environment in their own unique way by using materials that come to hand or those that are familiar to them.

The Urban Sketching Community is a worldwide movement which has become more and more popular. This unique group of illustrators is made up of professional artists and enthusiastic creatives, all wanting to share their view of their special space in the world.

Some of us relate to man-made structures, others to the people around them. Both are relevant."

This workshop will teach you some basic tips and techniques to make your new journey less confusing and more fun.

• a small sketchbook
• a drawing pen
• access to other sketching tools

Please note:

• Doors open at 9.30am, so we encourage you to arrive early to settle in as Di will begin at 10am sharp, and please allow time to look around the exhibition space afterwards. Enjoy!
• Parking is on the street Spencer Road, Salt River. Signage will be up at the entrance to Spencer Square to indicate where to go.
• Please be aware there are stairs coming up to the exhibition and workshops, so unfortunately this venue is not wheelchair friendly.
