Bad African

Céline Tshika did everything right: she stayed in school and got the degree. Then what? In her debut solo show, Céline unpacks the absurdities of being a model minority in a model-c school, dating in your 20s, and navigating life as both South African and Congolese—and also, neither. With sharp wit, catchy songs, and lyrics that warrant an African Mother side-eye, the viral social media comedian delivers a heartfelt and comedic take on identity and expectations.

Bad African has meant peeling back the layers of expectation, judgment, and silence that so many women, especially African women, are forced to navigate. When women withdraw their labor, creativity, and emotional energy, it reveals just how much we carry and how rarely that weight is acknowledged.

I stand with W4C in enforcing the national shutdown on the 21st of November.
