Iziko Art International Book Fair Festival 2025 is a prestigious literacy and cultural event scheduled for the 5th – 12th September 2025 in Durban. The festival is a response to the growing need to promote reading, storytelling, indigenous language preservation, and literacy entrepreneurship across the continent and beyond. The event is envisioned as a dynamic platform across diverse communities in the eThekwini region and beyond. It will also amplify African voices on a global stage.
Iziko Art International Book Fair-Festival, aims to become a central hub for authors, publishers and literature enthusiasts across Africa. It will focus on three cardinal pillars – Sales, Distribution and Writers Rights. The festival will provide a platform for African authors to present their work, expand their leadership, and connect with leading publishers and distributing channels. Amongst programs to be run, additionally, addressing critical topics like copyright, royalties, and fair compensation, empowering writers to protect and benefit from their Intellectual property in an increasingly competitive global market.
The event will not only showcase books and foster book sales, but will also emphasize the critical aspect of book distribution and writers’ rights. It will be hosted in the vibrant City of Durban/ eThekwini Metro, a UNESCO City of Literature. The Book Fair will align with the city’s distinguished status and commitment to the literature arts. It will be unveiled during the Heritage Month of September, week of International Literacy Day (8 September), and the event will also serve a celebration of global literature efforts and will reinforce eThekwini’s Metro role in advancing literature and knowledge.
