Yoga Lab Workshop 7 - Breathwork and Prana
August 10th
This workshop in traditional Pranayama "Breathwork" examines the cord that ties all yoga practices together. These breathing methods become a gateway to systematically move awareness to an inner world. Mind follows the thread of breath to penetrate the illusory world.
We will explore some of the lessor known pranayama techniques providing more clarity in Bandha, Khumbaka and Nauli and their relation to healthy breathing patterns. The control and refinement of our breath naturally occurs through comprehensive asana practice; and through healthy breathing patterns in daily life, calm and peaceful states emerge naturally.
This workshop will propose a physiological, medical explanation of subtle Prana and how "less is more" when it comes breathing well. We will also explore how we can accumulate and preserve this vital energy. Theory will be integrated and merged with particular techniques leading us to effortless retention in 'Maha Mudra' and a calm meditative centre.
Each of the previous workshops focuses on a particular aspect of fully functional breathing, trains the aspiring yogi toward mastery of breathing. This is really the most important knowledge in the field of Yoga: a Strong respiratory muscle function is the foundation of vitality, postural integrity, and a good indicator for our longevity. Since we will be exploring some of the intermediate practices, this workshop is not suitable for novices: experience in asana, and/or breathing practices is recommended.
Who is this for:
Those with either a well established meditation practice or a deep yoga asana practice or both.
Experienced practitioners advancing in years and hence ‘moving-on’ from the gymnastic practices will find inspiration in the breathing and meditation workshops.
