ABOUT

Ensemble Masana has a bit of an unusual make up - piano, flute and saxophone. Say what? Are there even music written for such a trio? And the answer is YES! Gorgeous music! On piano is Mareli Stolp whom I have known for basically my entire life. She's the sister to one of my childhood school friends, and then became my accompanist through university and beyond. Apart from being a fantastic pianist she has also always pushed the boundaries (such as with this trio!) in the music she plays, and even her PhD, which was censored for many years... On flute is the venerable Handri Loots, one of the stalwart go-to flautists in the country, and with whom I have also performed many times, from baroque concerts to opera. Perfect tone and exceptionally professional, she is just a delight to see and hear on stage. And then finally on saxophone is Rikus Coetsee, classically trained, and with a great passion for teaching. Their connection? These days they all teach at Pretoria Boys High, no wonder they have such a fantastic orchestra and band! The program will consist of works for all three instruments and also combinations of just two. Don't miss this delight for the ears!
